Additional Information
The MCARC Thrift Store is owned and operated by the Mohave County
Association of Retarded Citizens.
Its sole purpose and goal is to aid people with developmental
disabilities, their parents and other family members.
Our
store takes great pride in being clean, well-stocked and of being the
best bargains in town. All
items are prepared, cleaned, serviced, and picked up by our adults
with disabilities. This
store allows people with disabilities in our community to enjoy their
full working potential, improve their self-image and self-esteem, and
allows them to earn a living wage.
All adults working in and for the store are paid wages.
Much of the funding for what we do for these adults with
disabilities, comes from the items you donate that we in turn can
clean and resell. Our goal is to not only provide quality items to sell, but
also to provide quality life and work experiences for these
individuals, increase our common awareness regarding people who are
handi-capable.
This
makes the 30th year that the ARC has been in existence in
Kingman. It started with
the Little Red School House and grew with the needs of the students. We relish and enjoy the assistance the people in Kingman help
us with, through donations, both material and financial. We have active volunteers who help in the thrift store.
We
also provide a day treatment program differing from our work program.
These adults with disabilities interact within the community.
They have a rich, full curriculum that includes literacy
life-skills, survival training, and therapeutic programming.
We are also serving an additional number of adults and children
in the community who do not attend our programs.
This is accomplished through our Respite and Habilitation
Programs, which provides relief and training for these individuals and
their families.
